Today was the first day that the campers arrived. The main theme for the weekend is "Being in the world but not of it," and the theme song is, "Where I Belong," by Building 429. For me personally, this song is very fitting -- as a college student right now, I know from personal experience how difficult it is not to worry or preoccupy my mind with worldly things instead of focusing on God's grace and trusting in His plan. I'm really excited to hear other perspectives and see how this impacts all of us over the course of the studies and discussions.
We ate a pretty relaxed breakfast and prepped for their arrival around 5pm. Among other things, we set the main rules to be discussed, cut apart memory verses, and finalized the evening's worship songs. After the campers arrived, we ate dinner, introduced the staff and the theme, and had a worship service and indoor campfire (it was suuuuper windy!). I'm glad to have been able to help out with worship, both as far as leading songs and playing piano; in fact, this is something I hope to get better at over the course of the summer, so it was nice to have the opportunity to help right away.
Another thing that stuck out to me today was how wonderful it is to be back in such an accepting atmosphere. Although I haven't seen all of the campers I met in over a year, I felt so comfortable interacting and worshipping with everyone. That's one thing I love about Camp Blessing in general; the fact that although a lot of us don't see each other very often, we are brought so close together almost immediately by our mutual desire to learn and grow in our relationship with God and each other.

Thursday, May 23 -- California Camp
Today was the flight into California from the Midwest. I've really only flown twice that I remember, so being on a plane in itself was pretty exciting for me. We had 2 flights; one hour-long into Chicago and one 4-hour flight into Los Angeles. I'm very thankful for the relatively smooth flights we had, as well as having 4 of my family members flying out and the people that drove us out of the airport when we arrived around 11:30. I'm very excited for this weekend; still not entirely sure how God plans on using me in the next few days, but I'm definitely looking forward to the opportunity for God to speak through me and use me to bless those around me. I'm also extremely excited to see all the wonderful people I met at this camp last spring. I loved being out there so much, and I'm sure this year won't be any different.

My summer as an intern
This summer, I'll be interning for Camp Blessing, a Christian camp that I have attended since age 7. It's been a huge part of my life since I've started going, and I'm incredibly excited to have this opportunity to serve both Christ and others over the next few months. I thought I'd keep a blog of my journey through this summer so that I can share what this camp means to me, as well as how my relationship with Christ changes and grows as I experience each individual camp. Since I have no access to the internet during each camp, I might be a little slow with keeping this updated.
(For the sake of confidentiality to the people I'm working with, no names or pictures will be used. This blog is purely about how I am shaped by my internship and what I learn along the way.)
